Temper Roll
Temper Rolling is a process of giving light reductions to the steel to impart
the required surface on the strip and increase the hardness and strength to
desired levels. Since most of the incoming steel to temper mill comes from
annealing furnaces light reductions eliminates the coil breaks and cross breaks
common in annealed low carbon steels. Because of the lower speeds of the
Temper mills as compared to Cold Mills this is a good inspection point for the
steel. Material is oiled at the exit end of the mill if necessary. In most cases
temper rolling is the last process prior to shipment. Hence, packaging per
customer's specs is performed here.
